SUMMARY:Webinar 'Centering Care in Climate Transitions: Evidence and Action for Women Green Entrepreneurs'
DESCRIPTION:Grassroots women entrepreneurs across green sectors such as climate-smart agriculture\, clean energy\, and the circular economy contribute significantly to climate mitigation and adaptation. At the same time\, they are compounded by their vulnerability to climate change\, which amplifies their caregiving and resource management roles\, resulting in limited time\, mobility\, and financial readiness. The burden of unpaid care work like water and fuel collection\, childcare\, food preparation and care for sick family members falls disproportionately on women. This burden is not shared equally across households\, communities\, or institutions\, and it intensifies with every climate shock. Who else is supposed to carry it? Dlamini is a South African sociologist\, population and development specialist\, researcher and policy practitioner with extensive experience in government\, academia and evidence-informed development planning. She holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of South Africa (UNISA) and is a former Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Johannesburg. \n\n\n\nHer work covers population dynamics\, gender equality\, families\, the care economy\, social policy\, adolescent and youth development\, sexual and reproductive health and rights\, gender-based violence\, women’s economic participation and sustainable development. She centrally examines how structural inequalities\, including poverty\, gendered unpaid care responsibilities and unequal access to resources and services\, shape social and economic opportunities. \n\n\n\nDr Dlamini translates population and social research into policy\, planning and programme responses. Her current interests include gender-responsive development planning\, social protection\, climate resilience\, the care economy and inclusive economic development\, and she contributes to African and international research and policy collaborations that connect evidence with practical development responses. \n\n\n\nAt the Greenovations Climate and Care Webinar\, she brings a South African population and development policy perspective\, focusing on integrating unpaid care and climate vulnerability into government planning and women’s economic participation. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBelinda PutterillManaging DirectorUSE-IT Ethekwini Waste Materials Recovery Industry Development \n\n\n\nBelinda Putterill is the Managing Director of USE-IT Waste Beneficiation (RF) NPC in South Africa. She leads practical circular economy and waste beneficiation initiatives that support job creation\, township enterprise development\, and landfill diversion. Belinda works closely with grassroots and women entrepreneurs in the waste sector\, helping to strengthen inclusive green value chains and improve access to skills\, markets\, and funding. She is a strong advocate for recognising women as climate solution leaders and for making climate finance more accessible to women-led green enterprises. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVeronica BaracatCountry Programme Coordinator – Officer in ChargeUN Women Argentina \n\n\n\nVeronica Baracat is a gender specialist with more than 20 years of experience in leadership roles across international networks and institutions\, the United Nations system\, and government agencies. At UN Women in Argentina\, she works with the private sector to advance gender equality as a driver of business success. She has extensive experience planning\, implementing\, and managing programs and projects\, and building partnerships among international organizations\, NGOs\, governments\, and companies. She holds a Master’s in Gender Studies from the London School of Economics. In 2022\, Revista Noticias named her one of the “10 Argentines of the Year.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJimena MontaneEnvironmental Consultant and Facilitator \n\n\n\nJimena Montane is an environmental consultant and facilitator with over 15 years of experience working at the intersection of conservation\, sustainable tourism\, and community development across Mexico and Latin America. \n\n\n\nHer work centers on three main areas: facilitating participatory processes\, strategic workshops\, and capacity building with diverse stakeholders\, including rural and indigenous communities\, international organizations\, and government institutions; providing sustainability consulting to tourism destinations\, operators\, and protected natural areas\, with expertise in certifications such as Travelife; and designing educational and capacity strengthening programs for conservation and community tourism organizations. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCaroline KomeySenior Officer\, Entrepreneurship ProgrammeGraça Machel Trust \n\n\n\nCaroline Komey is a Pan-African entrepreneurship and development professional with more than 15 years of experience across programme strategy\, enterprise development\, investment advisory\, banking and financial inclusion. \n\n\n\nAt the Graça Machel Trust\, she leads a portfolio of multi-country entrepreneurship programmes supporting women and young entrepreneurs across Africa. Her work focuses on strengthening business capabilities\, expanding access to finance and markets\, and creating pathways for enterprise growth and job creation. \n\n\n\nThrough the Women Creating Wealth programme\, Caroline has contributed to supporting more than 6\,400 women entrepreneurs across seven African countries. The programme aims to reach 10\,000 women entrepreneurs\, enabling them to collectively generate US$1 billion in revenue and create 200\,000 jobs. \n\n\n\nHer experience includes designing grant and investment-readiness initiatives\, developing market access strategies\, building regional partnerships and working with public\, private and development-sector partners. She is particularly interested in how capital\, technical support and market linkages can expand economic opportunities for women\, young people and underserved communities. \n\n\n\nCaroline combines strategic programme leadership\, financial-sector experience and a strong understanding of the challenges facing African entrepreneurs. She is passionate about building inclusive enterprise ecosystems that enable businesses to grow\, create jobs and contribute to Africa’s economic development.
