After a thorough selection process that involved the identification of more than 150 tech hubs active across the continent in the green sector, a call for interest for the role of Lead “Champion Hubs” in the selected 5 green sectors of renewable energy, water management, smart agriculture, waste management, and climate action was issued. The call for interest was distributed to the identified hubs as well as the larger AfriLabs network. The second round of intensive selection revealed twelve competitive applications and after rigorous consideration, 5 innovation hubs were successfully chosen.

The successful Green Champion Hubs from across the continent underwent an online onboarding process on May 23, 2023 to gain insight into the goals, opportunities, and requirements of their participation in the Greenovations project. The selected 5 Champion Hubs will be in charge of organising the green sector community within their respective green sectors for heightened vertical reach and impact as well as carrying out the incubation programme within the frame of the Greenovations project.

The successful 5 Green Champion Hubs will provide cutting-edge and tailor-made support for the selected startups in their respective sectors:
