The call for applications for the Greenovations Africa 2 2026 programme, “Piloting Climate Smart Innovations that Reduce Unpaid Care Burdens,” which opened on 25 March and closed on 17 April 2026, has now concluded, and successful candidates have been selected.
Led by the Women’s Entrepreneurship Access Centre (WEAC) in collaboration with the United Nations University Vice Rectorate in Europe (UNU-VIE), the call sought concrete and feasible ideas from women entrepreneurs operating in climate action and green business innovation, aimed at reducing the effect of unpaid care burdens on women in their businesses and communities.
The call attracted a strong pool of applications from women entrepreneurs across the continent. Following a thorough review process, 34 candidates have been selected to join the 2026 cohort, representing 15 countries: Algeria, Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia.
The selected entrepreneurs will now begin onboarding, followed by a blended incubation and mentorship phase. Participants will receive seed funding grants to support the pilot implementation of their solutions, alongside technical, business, and leadership coaching, and access to innovation hubs, facilities, labs, and platforms for prototyping and testing.
